It's a bit of a minefield isn't it? Not to mention costly?
What if I told you about an IGCSE that most people haven't heard of?
One that encouraged critical thinking, encouraged debate, encouraged and supported an interest in the world we live in and considered how different it is depending on where we live?
One that had just ONE EXAM at the end AND a community action project, that meant your young person could make a difference. Global Citizenship education is all this and more.
Well - In 2013, when my daughter was home ed. I was lucky enough to hear about a fantastic tutor called Dorothy Murphy. She used to be the go to person for Environmental Management IGCSE and also Global Citizenship IGCSE. She ran a facebook group for home educators that gave advice and support and enabled me to lead my daughter through the course and to a grade A at the end! My daughter LOVED it and found it so interesting that she didn't even feel that she was "working" at it!
Well, now I am the admin for an Environmental Management IGCSE for home educators group AND a Citizenship for Home Educators group on Facebook.
GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP IGCSE covers 4 main themes, plus Citizenship Action:
· Politics and Governance
· Economic Development and the Environment
· Culture and Community
· Technology
If you think this sounds good - check out my introductory youtube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RibJ52jFZSs) or check out the facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/citizenshipforhomeed
I'll be running Citizenship webinars from Sept - Dec on most Wednesday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m. These are just £4 a webinar and will give students a taster of what's to come in the IGCSE course from January 2026 - May 2027.
