Service Description
Children and young people are growing up in a globalised world and are processing information from a wider variety of sources than ever before. They need the critical literacy skills to navigate the potential pitfalls when consuming news, particularly when using online sources and social media. In 2018, a report from the Commission on Fake News and the Teaching of Critical Literacy Skills in Schools found that only 2% of children and young people in the UK have the critical literacy skills they need to tell if a news story is real or fake. In this series of 3 lessons, we will: * Learn what fake news is. * Consider why people might share fake news. * Think about how fake news spreads * Consider what bias is and how it affects us. * Understand the importance of truth in journalism * Help students to develop their ability to critically analyse and evaluate news sources. * Help students to spot misinformation and come to their own judgments based on sound evidence. Lessons are LIVE and RECORDED and communication is via chat. No cameras and mics on please.
